In early 2001 work began on our new Community College, Abbey College/Colaiste na Mainistreach. 

Opening in September 2002 the school will offer the current range of subjects and will incorporate new subjects such as Art, Drama, Chemistry and Music.  PLC courses will also be incorporated. Hosting new courses and updated faclities, Abbey College will be one of the most up to date schools in the country.

In March 2002 Mr. Sean Tansey was announced as the new school principal for Abbey College/Colaiste na Mainistreach.

June 2002 - St. Mary's College was removed as Abbey College basketball courts and car parking are put in place. St. Mary's is one of the schools to become amalgamated with Scoil Chriost an Ri and the Vocational School.
